People's Parliament
Every year our Expert Members choose a People’s Parliament topic. They choose an important issue or service that matters to people with a learning disability. In recent years this has included mental health, managing risk and becoming more independent, the impact of Covid-19 and relationships.
Expert Members talk to lots of people with a learning disability to find out their views and experiences. They write a report about their findings and say what they think needs to change or be improved.
They talk to local service commissioners and providers about their findings and organise an event or workshop for people with a learning disability.
Our 2025 People’s Parliament topic was ‘Taking Control of my Life’.
We spoke to lots of people with a learning disability to understand what this meant to them and some of the things that stop them being able to take control. We have written a report to share these experiences and say what can be done to help people with a learning disability take control. This includes having the right support and understanding of important issues and information. We think that it is important people with a learning disability are able to make mistakes and learn from these and that we understand about taking responsibility too. Please click here to view our report.
We wanted to raise awareness and celebrate all the things that people with a learning disability can achieve. Here is a film we have made, showing some of our achievements. We hope you enjoy watching it.
