In September we received a visit from Nigel Huddleston, MP for Droitwich and Evesham. Rachel, Ray and Wayne talked to him about the work that we do at SpeakEasy N.O.W. This visit followed on from the letter we wrote to the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care about the removal of the national target for completion of Annual Health Checks for people with a learning disability. We talked about the local work we are involved in with NHS Herefordshire and Worcestershire to improve the quality of annual health checks and tackle health inequalities. We also talked more generally about what we do and talked about all the different areas of our work. Including work with Worcestershire County Council as part of the Learning Disability Partnership Board, peer engagement visits and involvement in consultation about changes to overnight breaks and Worcester Resource Centre. We also discussed our People’s Parliament topic for this year.
